WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT?

“DEVELOPMENT THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE PRESENT,WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.”

Our Common Future' 1989

StateofOurPlanetForum.org comments on the term "Sustainable Development"

There has been a lot of debate on the term Sustainable Development.
Some people feel that the term only covers up and somewhat restructures a dysfunctional global, industrial economic system.

It is our feeling at StateofOurPlanetForum.org that the future of civilization will evolve in terms of holistic and community structures of civilization as the foundation of economic and human processes. With social, environmental and population pressures surrounding us all. Expanding civilzation should be based on Humans and the Earth in a mutually enhancing relationship. Without this principle as a starting point, no model of development, no vision of progress is ever sustainable.

The current direction in Sustainable Development is a necessary direction in our current state of affairs to implement the governance systems and procedures to curb the effects of the current models of
the global industrial economic system as we transist to a new much more advanced holistic, symbiotic, integral global structure, some time in the future.
The next twenty years are the crucial years in defining the models
of future socieites.
